Wisconsin Primate Research Center celebrates 50! Help support the Goy Lecture Series
October 9, 2014

The Wisconsin National (Regional) Primate Research Center has recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.  To celebrate this historic achievement and outstanding research contributions, we have established the Robert W. Goy Lecture Series. Dr. Goy was the second and longest serving Director (1971-1989) and was key in building the foundations for the Primate Center we know today. He had a grand vision for primate research ranging from molecular to ecological levels.

Scientifically, Dr. Goy was a pioneer and one of the most influential scientists in the new fields of behavioral and reproductive neuroendocrinology. He and his colleagues discovered that exposure to testosterone during fetal development “organized” the developing monkey brain into generating more masculine behavior responses throughout life. His discoveries were the foundation for the current concepts on brain plasticity and epigenetic mechanisms of primate biology and behavior.

Establishment of the Robert W. Goy Lecture Series will highlight not only Dr. Goy’s many achievements, but also those of the Primate Center to which he dedicated so much of his life’s work. The Lecture Series will provide a highly deserving and lasting association between Dr. Goy and the Wisconsin National Primate Research Center. To accomplish this goal, we plan to invite a prominent speaker annually from the fields of Behavioral and Reproductive Neuroendocrinology to celebrate Dr. Goy’s achievements. We very much hope that you will join us in this initiative and make a contribution to support funding of the Robert W. Goy Lecture Series.

To endow the lectureship, our goal is to raise $100,000. Please send your contribution to the University of Wisconsin Foundation (1848 University Ave, Madison, WI 53726, c/o Barbara McCarthy). You may make your gift online.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,
Ei Terasawa, Professor of Pediatrics, University of Wisconsin
