January 3, 2020
Bruce S. McEwen (1938-2020)
It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Professor Bruce McEwen, a leading neuroendocrinologist of our time, whose work, wisdom and compassion touched the lives of so many members of the Society for Behavioral Neuroendocrinology. A link to an announcement from Rockefeller University is included below. Their opening statement is as follows:
Bruce S. McEwen, whose work transformed our understanding of how the brain changes throughout life, died on January 2 at age 81 after a brief illness. Best known for his studies on how stress hormones reshape neural circuits and brain structures, McEwen’s work has profound implications for public health, impacting conditions from normal aging to neurodegenerative disease, depression, and PTSD.
