2015 Election Results
President Elect:  Rae Silver (Barnard College & Columbia University)
Secretary:  Colin J. Saldanha (The American University)

Rae Silver is the Helene L. and Mark N. Kaplan Professor of Natural and Physical Sciences and holds joint appointments at Barnard College and at Columbia University. She is deeply interested in communicating science to the public and to furthering research opportunities in Behavior and Neuroendocrinology, in  times of health and in disease states. With Emilie Rissman and Kim Wallen, she was one of the founders of the Society of Behavioral Neuroendocrinology. Her publications range from studies of the endocrine control of parental behavior in male and female doves to the role of androgens in regulating timing of daily activity cycles. She has extensive administrative experience including a term as Department Chair. She has participated extensively in scientific and educational activities including serving as co-chair for NASA’s Research Maximization and Prioritization Committee reviewing Scientific Priorities for the International Space Station; Society for Neuroscience Program committee (chair-Autonomic  and Limbic System). She served as Senior Advisor at the National Science Foundation, working with NSF staffers in all the scientific directorates to create a series of workshops to examine opportunities advances in behavior and neuroscience. She is or has served on the editorial boards of the European Journal of Neuroscience, Journal of Biological Rhythms, and Hormones and Behavior.

Colin J. Saldanha received his Ph.D. in Psychology from Columbia University in 1995 and after postdoctoral training at UCLA’s Laboratory for Neuroendocrinology, was part of the faculty in the Dept. of Biological Sciences at Lehigh University for 10 years. During this time he was awarded the Christian & Mary Lindback Minority Faculty Award, the Eleanor & Joseph Libsch Early Career Research Award, the Stabler Award for Excellence in Teaching and was nominated for the Hillman Award for Graduate Advising. His scholarship on the spatial and temporal specificity of hormone delivery has been supported by the Alzheimer’s Association, the American Heart Association, and by NINDS. He has served as a panel-member for the NIH and the NSF and as a guest-editor for a special issue of Hormones and Behavior. He publishes regularly in neuroendocrine, neuroimmunology, neurotrauma and neuroscience journals. In 2011, Dr. Saldanha joined the faculty, and now is the Chair of the Department of Biology at American University and part of the new interdisciplinary Center for Behavioral Neuroscience. Colin has been part of the SBN since its inception and he and members of his laboratory are regular attendees at annual meetings. He has served as a member of the Website committee, chair of the Education committee and is chair of the Program Committee for SBN 2015. He was successful in garnering support for SBN trainees as the recipient of an NSF grant to aid trainee travel and attendance at the SBN meetings (2009 – 2012).
