WC Young Recent Graduate Award

2015 Award Winner: Samuele Zilioli

The W.C. Young Recent Graduate Award is given each year to an SBN member who has recently received the terminal degree and shows exceptional promise as a scientist in the field. The award for 2015 was given to Dr. Samuele Zilioli, who is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Wayne State University. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Catholic University of Sacred Heart in Milan, Italy, and his PhD in 2014 in Cognitive and Neural Sciences from Simon Fraser University. Dr. Zilioli’s research focuses on the interactions among testosterone, cortisol, and social context in humans, a theme that derives from classic work in birds and nonhuman mammals (e.g., Challenge Hypothesis). While deeply rooted in basic social neuroendocrinology, Dr. Zilioli’s work has direct implications for lifespan developmental trajectories and health risks.
